AMATIS - TOUCHSCREEN SETUP GUIDE#
About This Guide#
This guide explains how to configure a dedicated touchscreen device as a lighting control panel for the Amatis Light & Spaces app. It provides step-by-step instructions for both iOS and Android devices using their native lock features so that end users can only access the lighting controls app. It also includes notes on advanced methods (kiosk launchers and MDM solutions) for customers who need the device to remain locked down after reboot or for larger, multi-device deployments.
Necessary Parts#
The following parts will be necessary to complete this guide:
- A functional Amatis lighting controls system
- An Amatis Controls user account
- A touchscreen device (iOS or Android)
System Setup#
Before getting started, download the Light & Spaces app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android).
iOS Touchscreen Setup#
Guided access will be used to configure an iOS device with the Light & Spaces app.
- On the iPad, open Settings → Accessibility → Guided Access.
- Turn on Guided Access.
- Set a Passcode (or Face/Touch ID) to prevent exit.
- Launch your lighting control app.
- Triple-click the Home button (or Side/Top button on models without Home) → tap Start.
The iPad is now locked into that app. The Home/Multitasking buttons and notifications are disabled. To exit, triple-click the button again, enter the passcode, and tap End.
Note
Guided access does not start on boot. It will need to be re-enabled after a restart.
Android Touchscreen Setup#
Screen pinning will be used to configure an Android device with the Light & Spaces app.
- Open Settings → Security & privacy (or Security).
- Tap More security settings (or Advanced).
- Turn on App pinning (or Screen pinning).
- Enable Ask for PIN/Pattern to unpin (highly recommended).
- Open the app you want to lock.
- Open Overview/Recents (swipe up and hold, or the ◻️ button).
- Tap the app icon at the top of its card (or the 3-dot menu).
- Tap Pin / Pin this app.
The tablet is now locked into that app. The Home, Back, Recents buttons, and notification shade are disabled. To exit, press and hold Back + Overview (or Back + Home) together, then enter your PIN.
Note
Screen pinning does not start on boot. It will need to be re-enabled after a restart.
Advanced#
For permanent, always-on kiosk mode (where the device boots directly into the Light & Spaces app and remains locked), use either a kiosk launcher app or an MDM (Mobile Device Management) service.
- Why:
- Native Guided Access / Screen Pinning must be re-enabled after every reboot.
- Kiosk launchers and MDM solutions provide true “single-app mode” and remote management options.
Recommended Free Kiosk Apps
- Android:
- Kiosk Browser Lockdown (Play Store – free basic features)
- Kiosk Lockdown LimaxLock (Play Store – free with optional upgrades)
- iOS:
- Native Guided Access (best for one-off use)
- For more permanent setups, use MDM with Single App Mode (see below).
Recommended Free MDM (iOS & Android)
- Miradore (Free Plan):
- Works with both iOS and Android devices.
- Supports Single App Kiosk Mode (locks the device to Light & Spaces automatically, even after reboot).
- Provides a web dashboard for admins to manage devices, push updates, or remotely unlock a panel.
- Free forever for core features — great for small to medium installations.
Important
Enrolling a device into an MDM solution requires a factory reset. This means the device will be wiped during setup.
